Ideological compass
Where the groups stand on a topic
A model reads the floor speeches on the topic, finds the two points that divide the groups and places each group by what its members argue for.
A new topic takes about a minute.
Ready topics
The same topics as the ready dossiers.
How to read it
- 01
Two axes drawn from the debate
The axes are not left and right. The model draws them from the speeches on the topic and names the two poles of each.
- 02
What the speaker argues counts
Each speech is scored on both axes by the position it argues, not the words it uses: rebutting a claim puts the speaker on the other side. A group sits at the mean of its speeches.
- 03
Confidence and coverage
A group's confidence is the share of its speeches that take a position. With few speeches the position moves toward the centre. If the model does not answer, positions are estimated from text similarity, a less precise method.
